Symposia

Every two years, the National Wetland Trust organises a gathering of community groups, landowners, iwi, scientists, wetland managers and students who are interested in sharing and learning about wetland restoration. Usually spread over three days, the symposia include field trips, practical training opportunities, soapbox sessions and presentations from a wide range of enthusiasts and professionals.

In 2020 we teamed up with DOC, ECan, NZ Freshwater Science Society and others to host the first ever INTECOL (International Ecology Wetland) Conference in NZ.

Our next symposium will be held at the Copthorne Hotel in Paihia, Northland, April 2024: 10-11th (presentations and workshops) 12th (optional field trips).

Early bird registration for standard attendance is $425 until 27 February.

A discount rate of $150 is available for non professionals, this includes community volunteers /landowners/ students/ unwaged attendees (no early bird deadline). Ensure you select the correct registration option in the registration form.

Conference dinner and field trips are available as optional extras.

Ngā Kaitiaki o Ngā Wai Māori has funding assistance available to awhi with accommodation and field trip costs associated with the Symposium. The funding is available for Kaitakitanga, Students and Community roopu. We know these roopu work on an oily rag to achieve the mahi that needs to be done so we’re pleased to be able to offer this funding support.  If you wish to request this awhi, or have questions, please email Delaraine Armstrong, or Jeannie Poutai NUMBERS LIMITED

The Copthorne Hotel has offered a limited number of rooms at a discount rate of $189 per single, $199 per couple. To receive the discount make your booking via email and quote this: “National Wetland Symposium BLOCK NO: 13270167”

We are keen to reduce the carbon footprint of the event and make it easier for people to reach the venue. If you would like to offer a ride in your car or seek a lift to/from the airport, Auckland or Whangarei please register your preference using the Carpool Register button, and we will aim to match you up. Note that the Brynderwyn Hill Road will be closed during the period of the conference. We recommend using NZTA Journey Planner to find a suitable route.

Thanks to our supporters
