Publications & PresentationsDevelop your own Wetland Trail
The Trust has official Transit road signage and an existing trail guide structure. We are happy to work in partnership with interested groups or agencies. If you wish to develop a wetland trail guide endorsed by the National Wetland Trust please contact us to discuss your ideas.
National Trust Wetland Trail GuideLaunched during our national World Wetlands Day event at Rangiriri, the guide describes the history, fauna and flora of one of our Ramsar sites and an associated lake. The 50 km driving trail starts at Lake Kopuera, the site of our planned National Wetland Centre. The route is marked by highway signs developed specifically for the Trust. Beautifully illustrated by Keith Woodley's paintings of wetland birds, the bright orange brochure will stand out well at visitor centres and encourage travellers to get off State Highway 1 and explore some of the shy areas of the Waikato. Producing a sries of guides to wetland trails around the country is one of the goals of the Trust. Task 4 of our Business Plan is to "Facilitate access to wetland areas" and producing wetland trail guides is a key method to achieve that. The Whangamarino Wetland and Lake Waikare trail guide is a template for further guides around the country. We welcome ideas and support for local trails. If you wish to produce,
or help produce, an official National Wetland Trust trail in your area,
contact our Trails Committee representative, Brian Sorrell at b.sorrell@niwa.cri.nz.
