Wet and Wild Places

"Our Wet & Wild Places" is a beautifully illustrated booklet produced by the Trust that highlights five of New Zealand's six Ramsar sites.  The booklet includes information on the special features of each site and how to get there.  For a copy send $10 and your details to the National Wetland Trust (postal address below).

Exerpts from the book have been used to create our Ramsar site pages.

Wetland Restoration Handbook launched at National Wetland Restoration Symposium

Wetlands%20Handbook%20Cover%20MR.jpg Wetland Restoration: A Handbook for New Zealand Freshwater Systems brings together expertise from specialists and groups actively engaged in restoring wetlands throughout the country.

The handbook builds on regionally based restoration guides and provides a detailed, comprehensive ecosystem approach toward understanding, protecting and enhancing our remaining wetlands.

It is targeted at those who plan to, and those who already are making a difference to improving wetlands, and is written in a way that can easily be understood and importantly, acted on.

This beautifully designed handbook has excellent colour photographs, is wire bound with wrap-around cover, and includes a CD of references and websites. Order a copy from Manaaki Whenua Press.

You can also purchase from Manaaki Whenua Press a re-print of Wetland Plants in New Zealand by Johnson and Brookes.

Hooked on Native Fish

The NZ Landcare Trust has released a new factsheet series focused on our native fish. Individual sheets cover urban fish, rural streams, catchment management for fish, in-stream works to maintain or improve fish habitat. Factsheet 1 has been translated into Te Reo.

Wetland book wins Montana award

Renowned New Zealand author Janet Hunt won the 2008 Montana Medal for Non-fiction for her book that evokes both national celebration and sorrow; the story of our wetlands.

Wetlands of New Zealand - a Bitter Sweet Story, written over many years is a stunning and touching insight into these beautiful (and broken) ecosystems.

The Trust has copies of Janet Hunt's "Wetlands of New Zealand" book for sale at a special price of $50 (p&p $7.00 extra).

Contact trustee Keith Thompson to purchase a copy.
